Fast Track

  • Legal Procedure

The fast track is the procedural track for claims valued between £10,000 and £25,000 (subject to exceptions) where the trial is not expected to last more than one day and oral expert evidence is limited to one expert per party in up to two expert fields. Under CPR Part 28, the court gives standard directions with a target trial date within 30 weeks of allocation.

In practice

Fast track cases follow a streamlined timetable with fixed trial costs. The court gives directions for disclosure, witness statements, expert evidence, and a pre-trial checklist. Fixed costs apply to the trial itself (varying by band), limiting the costs exposure for both parties. Claims that are too complex for the fast track are allocated to the multi-track.
