Multi-Track
- Legal Procedure
The multi-track is the procedural track for claims valued at more than £100,000 (claims between £25,000 and £100,000 are normally allocated to the intermediate track introduced on 1 October 2023) or claims of any value that are particularly complex, involve issues of public importance, or require a trial lasting more than one day. Under CPR Part 29, the court gives tailored case management directions, including costs budgeting for claims under £10 million.
In practice
Multi-track cases are actively managed by the court through case management conferences. Directions cover disclosure, witness evidence, expert evidence, trial timetable, and costs budgets. Costs are assessed on the standard or indemnity basis rather than fixed costs. Multi-track is the default allocation for claims in the High Court.
