Senior Master

  • Regulatory Bodies

The Senior Master of the King's Bench Division is a judicial officer of the High Court who has specific responsibilities relating to the authorisation and regulation of High Court Enforcement Officers. The Senior Master advises the Lord Chancellor on applications for HCEO authorisation.

In practice

Prospective HCEOs must satisfy the Senior Master that they are fit and proper persons to hold an authorisation. The Senior Master considers applications, renewals, and complaints, and may recommend that the Lord Chancellor suspend or revoke an authorisation. The Senior Master also has a broader role in the procedural management of King's Bench proceedings.
