Administration of Justice Act 1920
- International
An Act providing for the reciprocal enforcement of judgements between the United Kingdom and certain Commonwealth countries. Part II of the Act allows judgements from superior courts of reciprocating territories to be registered in the High Court and enforced as if they were English judgements.
In practice
The AJA 1920 remains an important route for enforcing judgements from many Commonwealth nations, including several Caribbean and African states. The judgement creditor applies to the High Court for registration within 12 months of the date of the judgement. The debtor may apply to set aside registration on limited grounds, including fraud, breach of natural justice, or lack of jurisdiction.
