Exempt Goods
- Property
Goods that cannot be taken control of by an enforcement agent under the Taking Control of Goods Regulations 2013. Exempt goods include items or equipment necessary for the debtor's personal use in their employment, business, trade, profession, or study, up to a total value of £1,350, and essential household items.
In practice
Enforcement agents must identify and exclude exempt goods during any attendance. Tools of the trade up to £1,350 aggregate value are protected, as are clothing, bedding, furniture, household equipment, and items necessary for the basic domestic needs of the debtor and their household. Goods on hire purchase are also exempt because the debtor does not own them.
